                                                                                     TB Project

                                                                                                       Interim Report

Although the TB Committee had thought to do a big outreach to the Hmong community during the Fall of 2005 as reported,  but due to a limited spaces and timing schedules availability  of the 2005-06 of Hmong New Year  at Cal Expo, we the committee members and the TB Trainers were not able to do such outreach as planned.

Despite above unsuccessful plan the committee had encountered, as a TB Trainer and Health Educator of the Sacramento Lao Family, Inc., I have done my own community outreach and  TB training to a numbers  Hmong community groups who live in the Sacramento in different zip code area.

Below are locations, times, and dates where TB education and workshops were provided to the community groups in different zip code in the     Sacramento area by the TB Trainer of the Sacramento Lao Family Comm. Inc., from the ending year of  2005  to the early year of 2006

The committee has resumed its duty again in 2006.  The first meeting was held on Wednesday 1/11/06 and the second meeting was on Wednesday 3/29/06.  Both time were held at the Dept of Health & Human Services 7001 A East Parkway Street.

Due to the unsuccessful plan during the Fall of 2005, the Committee had proposed to recruit more TB Trainers to be trained so that the TB Educational information can be spread to the community people broader and quicker.  So far, only a little more than 200 Hmong community people had been reached since the project has started to date, and only two TB Trainers have done the job to reach out, said Nick Mori, TB Training’s Trainers and Health Educator at the County Health Department.  On our recent TB Committee Meeting on Wednesday 3/29/06, Dr. Kasirye confirmed that 16 cases of active Tuberculosis are still remained as usual on the new Hmong comers since June 2004, Said Dr. Olivia Kasirye, Sacramento County TB Controller who recently had just come on board to the TB Education Advisory Committee to replace Dr Trochet’s place.

This is the conclusion of the report for the “Hmong TB Education Advisory Committee” on the TB epidemic outbreak on the Hmong Refugees from ThaKraBot since June 2004  to present.  A new regular TB meeting is scheduled for Wednesday May 24, 2006 at DHHS Office located at 7001A East Parkwy.  I’ll debrief you all in the next report   if  our Health Navigation Project   can   become the new “system change” which is  being proposed by the Calif. Endowment (TCE), our granter for the next coming phase.
