English as a Second Language and Employment Service:       

(Refugee Employment and Social Services.) Our experienced and qualified instructor provides 240 hours of classroom training in conjunction with two bilingual teacher's assistants (Hmong, Lao and Russian.) The training emphasizes on communication and literacy skills designed to help beginning students to cope in daily "survival" environment.  Students who complete training are assisted in locating and applying for entry-level employment. Employment Assistance Program:                                     

(Target Refugee Assistance/Discretionary Funds/Welfare to work Act.) SLFC assists in finding, applying for and obtaining employment for refugee adults, whether receiving cash assistance or not. Services include job counseling; preparing employment application and resume; job retention and follow-up assistance. Our highly effective bilingual Hmong Mien, Lao and Russian Job Developers are available by walk-in or appointment basis. Back Next |

  
 
Pre-Employment Assistance Program                                    

SFLC offers basic pre-employment training to enhance your skills in job preparation and work readiness. The organization also helps clients develop a professional image and produce powerful resume. In this section, client will learn to set and achieve goals, and learn about time management and pick up problem solving skills. This curriculum has been designed specifically to address the needs of clients with limited English and no-work experience. Back Next |

  
WIA On-Job-Training Program (OJT)                                 

Under the OJT program, SLFC will contribute to employers 50% of the client's wages up to 480 hours or three months. In addition, SLFC offers job orientation and classes on time management to clients prior to placing them in the workplace. Back Next |

  
 
Senior Transportation Program                                               

Funded through Area 4 Agency on Aging in conjunction with Para-Transit Inc. the program targets the Hmong, Mien and Lao seniors (over the age of 65) whom are homebound, unable to drive and not fluent in English. Our bilingual staff sets appointments and coordinates ride schedules. Interpretation is also available when necessary if seniors need to access additional services. Back Next |

Citizenship Assistance Program                                  

SLFC assist applicants in preparing their N-400 and N-600 applications in conjunction with the consequence consultation regarding the citizenship requirements. In addition, our staff will provide technical and logistical support to the applicants to meet the requirements of the law.  Back

  
 
Healthy Marriage                                                                      

This program offers workshops to educate and promote marriage strengthening. These are interaction workshops for engaged couples, newly married couples, married couples with children, parenting or simply singles. Seeking marriage readiness. These workshops are tools to help prevent couples and families from engaging in conflicts such as domestic violence and divorce.  Back Next |

Healthy Families (Health Insurance)                              

SLFC provides assistance for clients to obtain health insurance through healthy families. Healthy families is a low-cost insurance that provides health dental and vision coverage to children of working parents and pregnant women who do not have insurance and do not qualify for no-cost Medi-Cal in State of California. Our agency has high qualification Certified Application Assistants to help fill out applications. Back

  
                                                                                       
The Hmong Resettlement Health Systems Navigation Project  

SLFC provides interpretation and translation in Hmong to Wat Thamkrabok, Thailand refugees. This program also provides services from scheduling initial medical appointments to transporting clients to and from their medical visits.  An important part of this program is to assist refugees in accessing adequate health and mental healthcare services and improving the quality of life for Hmong refugees.  SLFC’s  Health Educators conduct several health education workshops on a variety of issues from how to access the health and mental health systems to Medi-Cal or Managed Care coverage and diseases like Diabetes, Tuberculosis and Hypertension.

Unanticipated Arrivals                                                                    Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR)                                                                                                                  

In this program, Caseworker provides refugees resettlement services to new Hmong arrivals from Wat Thamkrabok, Thailand. Refugee Employment and Social Services are provided to these new refugees adjusting to a new life in American Society. The program's main goal is to offer sustainable self-sufficient plans through employment channels and social services. Our qualified staffs are fluent in Hmong and English and are available on a walk-in or appointment basis.
